Underwater People was formed by Jim DiDomenico in 1992. Over the years, the band has developed a large following in Chicagoland by playing venues such as The House of Blues, The Park West, The Vic Theater, Navy Pier's Skyline Stage, pre-game concerts at Wrigley Field and Sox Park, countless Chicago street festivals, and most of Chicago's larger club live music venues. The band has played major corporate conventions, and numerous other private parties, weddings and many of Chicago's larger athletic event post-race parties, including the Shamrock Shuffle and the Chicago Marathon.
Underwater People has also performed on stage or as an opener for some of the biggest names in popular music, including Los Lobos, Blues Traveler, Tonic, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Lowen and Novarro, The Samples, The Freddy Jones Band, the Goo Goo Dolls and many others.
Underwater People's music is a vocal based blend of many styles with the emphasis on pop and rock. They are a group of people pleasing chameleons that can play songs from many musical genres. During the course of a performance, you might hear current songs from Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, U2 or Barenaked Ladies, classic songs from Paul Simon, Tom Petty or The Police, very classic songs from Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, a Bob Marley Reggae tune, Cajun music, Gospel music, dusties from The Beatles, Elvis or The Monkees, even a Polka or the ever popular "Redneck Medley". They have also released three albums of original material that has sold in excess of 15,000 copies.
All the while, the emphasis of every show remains on having fun and pleasing their audience. No pretentious rock & roll attitudes, just a group of amiable professionals who realized a long time ago that they're there to entertain the audience, not themselves. The great part is that they love to do just that!
